BEN KERR

The King of Cayenne Pepper, Toronto's Best Busker (10 years in a row), Beloved Troubadour And Unofficial Mayor of Toronto

Toronto's Icon, Ben Kerr has been in the musicBen Kerr and one of his fans business almost all of his life. Ben Kerr is often found crooning his own country and western ballads at Bloor and Yonge Streets in Toronto, Canada. Just in case you are from another planet and do not know Ben Kerr, he is the one wearing the bright yellow "Better Than Viagara" sweatshirt.

We met over 20 years ago while I was publisher/editor  of Klassic Magazine. A single mother, holding down a full-time job and publishing the magazine part-time  which provide information on new singers and events in the community, while Ben was promoting his Cayenne Pepper Cocktail. We thought it would perk interest in our readers with his article on "How to Improving your Sex Life with the Cayenne Pepper Cocktail". Our readers were curious on whether the concoction worked or not. Well, the little entertainment magazine was shelved, after the publisher/editor realized that she could no longer maintain the hectic pace. Ben and I lost touch with each other.

Twenty years later, I quit my full-time job (I was always an entrepreneurial spirit) and got back into the entertainment business as a talent agent/booker. However, each time I meet a singer/songwriter, Ben Kerr would come to mind. So I decided to look up Ben. Ben Kerr is a very busy man. It took  numerous telephone calls before we finally met for coffee. Reminiscing on the success/failure of Klassic Magazine, Ben thinks that Klassic Magazine was a good publication, but I was not ready for success. He thinks I am ready to go all the way now.

Ben Kerr and Belinda StronachBen Kerr is everybody's grandfather. He is ageless, wise, a good listener and has lots of stories and experience to backup any advice he dishes out. Long before there was an anti-smoking campaign in Toronto, Ben Kerr ran from Toronto to Los Angeles promoting his non-smoking beliefs. When Belinda Stronach ran for the Conservative leadership, he wrote the song "She Is Better Than Viagara" for her. He wrote songs for Neil Young before Young was famous. He wrote "The Cayenne Pepper Cocktail" song and his book "The Cayenne Pepper Cocktail Does It All" (Victory Enterprises Publications) is a collector's item.

"Make a wish, it could be your lucky day" - Ben Kerr
